I'm sittin' in the train, between Köln and Hamm, on my way back to Detmold. We had 4 days off, after the past weeks of stress, rehearsals and performances, and I went to visit the family I grew close to in Estonia, whose Matriarch and youngest son are living in Luxembourg. Clear? I was actually quite uncertain, until the day before I left, what I'd do with these free days: Visit in Dresden? In Berlin? In Paderborn? (And see the library there...) do training with some companies around the country?
None of those came through though. I went to Lux, and had a very very restful quiet time. I actually feel much more relaxed now, and free in the mind. I didn't worry, or think at all for these past days. Mostly, all I did was sit at their home (and read, or watch DVDs or play on the computer,) and then walk around the city taking pictures. I didn't meet anyone (new,) I didn't go "out", I just took my time, and enjoyed myself.
Now, I'm going to start with the "at Home" details first, and Yes, I realise they may be boring. Reading: Half of Ray Bradburry's "Revolt in 2100." -which I think I will not write a proper review for, not because it didn't interest me, but because I didn't finish it. (It is about a Religious totalitarianismic America, of the future, which is revolting to a Free Government. Not among the best concepts I've ever read, but very well written and engaging.) also, I watched DVDs... "Me, myself and Irene" which was all right, Johnny English, which was well amusing, and some movie about a police man or a spy or something. I wasn't really paying any attention, because I was at that time playing "Heroes of might and Magic." This is a bit of a roll playing game, where you are a hero, who goes about, fighting creatures, building an army (which fights with, or for you,) and governing your city (which can produce various creatures,) and battling for control of other cities. Now... onto the city (not in the computer game, don't worry, I mean Onto the European capital.)
Well, it's a little country, with a (dare I use such a term?) Quaint capitol. It felt unusual in a way, and I guess that this explains why it remains small, and doesn't sprall: It's built on a hill, with low, narrow river valleys surrounding it, and then more hills around, and it in very up and down terrain. It's very beautiful because of this. And there are green spaces all about it, and through it. And there are many caves and ruins and such things, that you get with over a thousand year's habitation. (And that's only how long it was a fortified city. who knows how long before that there were huts and farmers and what-not?)
I can't recall everything I took pictures of, but it included rain (there was a thunder shower, but we had fortunately just gone to explore the caves when it began,) some twisty stone stairs with very nice light, Pigeons, sheltering from the rain (and startled by a thunder clap,) and a few of Bridges, or from them. There were also a couple this morning, from the train.
And my Battery ran out, near the beginning of the last paragraph, and now it is late at night, in Detmold, and I must sleep.
But the one other thing I saw today, that stuck in my mind, was looking out the train window, at one stretch of land, between Paderborn and Altenbecken, where I could count 40 wind turbines. That's Really a lot. Before, I remember seeing 15 or 17 at once, but 40? (And is it only my Naturalism that makes this so exciting? Is it only because I feel there is romance, and "Good vibes" from renewable energy sources, that I sit up and take note? What do you think?) I sleep now! (With my lovely newly named flute, Vahtramäe close at hand. I'll explain later.)
