Well...

I need to think about some things. But first, I need to explain a little: My sister has turned to religion. She has opened her heart to Jesus, and has tuned herself to the Lord. (More or less; I don't know if I'm explaining it properly.) And it is important to me, that if she ever reads this, she understand that I am in no way doubting her, and the love she's found, I am just doubting generally.

And... the topic for thought today is: "Jesus DIED for you."

Now, the way I have understood it, in my totally uninformed, unresearched way, is that Jesus died for us, sacrificing his life, that our sins may be excused; He died, to pardon us our sins, and to give us the chance for eternal life, (and such desirable things.) Now, it has felt to me, that we, the people should be immensely grateful for this. I sort of feel that I've heard it as an argument, to wake people up, and make them realize what has been sacrificed for us, that we might turn to God. (Did I make any sense just now? I fear I am note fully clear.)

Anyhow, I was thinking... that this one life is not such an unimaginable deal. And this sacrifice made, was not so incredible.

After all, how many people in the world today, In the self-centered, egotistical, dysfunctional, messed up world of Today, would give up their life for world peace. Really. If you knew that you could stop all the wars, all the slaughtering, all the bombs, all the aggression, all the fighting, In the ENTIRE WORLD. Wouldn't you do it? Even at the cost of your life? Wouldn't you still maybe do it? Wouldn't it be worth it, for the millions of lives Per YEAR, that you would save?

Perhaps not; not you. I will not judge anyone for their answer to that question. But... I'm sure you could imagine others who Would be ready to make that sacrifice; If a loved one of theirs was out at war, or even if they've lost part of their family to violence, and feel that aggression MUST end. There are people now and here, who would give up their life, that others may live. (Isn't that a big part of Military philosophy too? That you young boys need to go out and kill, that your country will stay safe, Safe for your Loved ones?)

Anyhow, I think I've made that point.

And the last step of it, seems simple to me: Isn't the value of the eternal soul greater than the fleeting life span?

What I'm suggesting, is that wouldn't it be even More important to save the souls of every one on earth, than to save their lives? Isn't that a nobler cause? Well then, the giving of one life, in exchange for the souls of countless billions, should not be such an astounding sacrifice, should it?

So, I hope no one will ever think of me as ungrateful, and callused, if they say that "Jesus DIED for you!" and expect me to then follow his every word and suggestion. I would die for the enormous good of mankind too, if I had the choice, but I wouldn't expect everyone to do as I thought best because of it.

I apologize for the offence that this could no doubt give many people. At least I am considering God, and the Christian Religion.

PS. Does any one suppose that the reason the Sacrifice is made such a huge deal of... is because... We're all such selfish people deep down?

That we can all imagine giving our life, to save the lives of our children, but we feel that it would be a huge, monumental sacrifice, that the whole world should take note of. And that, when they think to them selves, it is always "Jesus died for *ME*! -yeah, he kind of died for the good of a billion billion other people too, but what really matters, is ME."

I don't know if I believe that at all, but it seemed like a thought.
