My theater season is in the homeward stretch now, and in three weeks my summer holidays will begin. I had discussed with my Fiancee's family the possibility of Sicily, and then of Galicia (West coast of Spain.) And then my sister sent me an e-mail announcing her pending wedding. So, as they say, "All bets were off."
Come Hades or High Water, or Hurricanes or Hefelumps, I had to get to Victoria for the middle of July. It would be such a pity to loose my vacation time with my Pamela though... which she would regret as much as I. With luck, we found a reasonable priced airfare to Vancouver, direct from Frankfurt, (Don't ask what "Reasonable" is. That's a relative term. Let's just say that it's 20 to 30 percent less than the "Standard" fare.)
The next surprise, was that Pamela's parents are curious about Canada, and though we never expected to see them cross the Atlantic, they decided they'd like to come with us. So we're making a big trip out of the whole thing! The four of us are flying out to Vancouver on JULY 2. We may be some time in the big city, but I plan on persuading them to come to the Island, ("where it's so, so SO lovely! Come! You must see it!") The Three Muench-es will be flying back to Frankfurt then on JULY 21st. Leaving me (Sorrowing and lonely without my Pamela) until August 12th.
SO PREPARE YOURSELVES! If you'd like to meet me, and my future bride, and her parents, we'll be there. What concerns me particularly is:
1. -Places to go. If you could name just three things that we MUST see on the west coast, what would they be? (Besides the TRULY obvious Butchart Gardens, RBC museum, Marine-Sea-Park-Thing Vancouver...)
2. -People to see. I don't know what ratio of visiting People/Places they feel like, (after all, a whole Vacation to a foreign country, and seeing nothing but other people's sitting rooms... would seem a bit dumb.) But if you're filled with insatiable curiosity, I can try to fit you into our whirlwind tour.
3. -Cars to drive. Er, yeah. I'm a Net-working, Friend-circle, Money-saving type of person. I can't help thinking "I know lots of people with cars on Vancouver Island. Perhaps one of them isn't using theirs?
I realise it's a long shot... but I figure that there no (or at least very little) harm in asking. And if we payed only half of the regular fee for a rented car... That would make asking worth while.
Um... Yep. That's the news. And if this is the first time you hear of my engagement... "Errr... Sorry." It's been official since December. We both feel that setting a date can not be done before we've experienced co-habitation though. So at the moment, we tentatively plan our wedding for Summer 2008.
