Decline and fall   by Evelyn Waugh

June 2004     A Christmas gift from my loving, book-addict Mother.

A British work of fiction, set about 100 years ago. I didn't know what to expect, when starting this book, and could offer only minimal advice now, (on what one might expect to find in it.) It is serious, (well... at least it is not humor... but it... feels too engaging to be "truly" serious.) -serious, but very well written. The character is just plain interesting, and I wish to know how things end up for him.

There could be a feeling that this is a far-fetched tale, but that is only me, Now, saying that. This criticism never crossed my mind while reading the book. All the same, it's a little hard to credit the number of coincidental meetings between the characters.

The other strong feeling that I have, is that there was much more in this book to think about, and to mull over, than I got out of it. I was reading this as the most leisurely leisure, and did not look for the subtle connections, or little details.

More? Me Sleep now though.

2 days later: I was Really tired. And... I still don't really have anything to add to this review. It WAS a good book though, and it will be interesting, to see if I ever discover why it is I find so little to comment on.
