Short, and Shorter stories   by Oscar Wilde

From a comlete set of his works, in the little restraunt by my home in Lüneburg.

The Nightengale and the Rose

I've just read the (very) short story by Oscar Wilde, called The Nightingale and the Rose, and was more than a little struck by it. It was about a bird, who is true love, selfless love, and deepest sacrifice for love. There is a student, who is grey, studious, serious, and, in the end, knows no passion except for books. There is also a girl, who is light, unserious, and... shallow. And I can't for the life of me see what the moral of the tale is. But it's so lovely. And so sad.

And I thought it could make a fairly stunning poem. A Ballad. It will tell exactly the same story, with the three rose bushes. And with the Oak tree, and with the three stages of love, (Probably going on more about those three stages then in the book.) And the same tragic end. It's something... which I think I might be able to do well.

It's just a matter of getting the story from the internet, and writing the verse then. Wish me luck.
