Dear Family, and Select friends...
I've got a little bit of news for every one. I was offered a job a couple of weeks ago, and took some time to think it over, and see if there were other immediate possibilities. Then yesterday, I had free, and decided to go to this theater, sort out paperwork, and watch a performance that night. So,
I have now signed my contract for one year with Theater Lüneburg. (Fanfare, applause, and cheering, faintly heard from the back of my consciousness.) Now then: Lüneburg. This is a city some 30 minutes (by car,) south of Hamburg. It's got all sorts of european history and stuff, (very rich, some 4 or 5 centuries ago, and this and that things happening.) It's becoming more... stylish to live there; The people in Hamburg with money, and time to commute, like to live in this smaller city. (That drives the prices of flats up a bit.) There is also a university there, (so the students bring the prices down.)
I can't say that this theater is a big step up, but I think I'll be a bit happier there; (With the more classical Ballet choreography.) It's also a smallish theater, again with only eight to ten dancers, but they more often bring in students and younger dancers for the corps de Ballet, so some of the bigger Classical productions are possible. (I've seen pictures of Romeo and Juilett, and of Sleeping Beauty.)
Umm... I don't really know what more to say. I've kept the offer under my hat, because I know that my life is hectic, and instable, (or, I like to say "Full of Surprises.") And I would have felt rather silly, announcing to the whole world of my friends that I'm going to this theater, and then telling of how I got an offer from somewhere else, and then telling of how I'll take the first one after all. (Such twists happen in my life.) So, I decided to wait until today, when my contract is actually signed, and it's... well, much more certain that I'll be going there. There are still some questions I need to ask though, which I didn't find out about while I was there. (Such as WHEN is the first day of dancing? My contract starts on August 11, but do I need to BE there that day?)
Well, that's about all. I know there are still other things I ought to be writing about, (I've not said what I think of "Ballet" piece that premiered three weeks ago, or how I spend my time with Pamela, or about Alice in Wonderland, which is the smaller Modern piece which we're rehearsing, or about what I'm thinking of doing this summer, or so on. Ah dear.)
But... That's all stuff that I need to get around to later. Right now, I want to sleep, and then I've got a performance in "Bartered Bride" this evening, (It's an Operetta where we dance for two or three minutes.)
I wish everyone a pleasant spring!
Matthew.
