Hmmm, that was a pleasant evening. I've had a free day, (much of it spent working on this and that for my website, and computer.) But also some time socializing, and eating pleasant things in the sun.
This evening though, I went to meet someone from the chorus from the Theater. He'd told me, (some time ago,) that he and some friends had started meeting on Monday evenings, to sing this song and that, and generally chill, in a nice, musical atmosphere. Seeing as I like singing, I asked him more about it, and it was agreed that I would come along and join them. The first time I wanted to go, I thought it was Sundays, and not Mondays. So I stood outside their door for a while, and then decided to go home. The week after that, (when I'd learnt what my mistake was,) the singing was cancelled, due to it being Easter Weekend. The week after that, he was getting married, (which didn't leave much free time, I guess. :-)
And this week, I went there -and there was no one at home. (I was then instructed by a neighbour of them, that they were in "the Garden." -And had a nice half hour walk, getting lost in that neighbourhood, and seeing how well the summer was coming on.) When we at last met, and were inside their house, I felt right at home. It was the most relaxed atmosphere. -But to explain that, all my readers must understand that I was raised in a "post-hippie" environment. Naturalism, and liberality were key themes of my upbringing. There were always a number of alternative Lifestyle people I would meet.
So, knowing that, you might understand how it felt for me to not think twice about taking off my shoes right away. And within five minutes, I was copying the host, and had removed my socks as well. And no one there gave me a second look, when I seated myself on the floor, (which is one of the most comfortable ways for me to sit.) The others who were coming to sing were a bit later, so I helped them with some... work which was being done. To be specific, I was removing the bark from some wooden stakes. (They'd gotten a Tepee for their wedding, and were making some nice wooden stakes to fasten it with.) So I sat there, with bare feet, on their floor, with wood peelings all about me, and we talked of this and that, and sang some songs. (I don't know about you, but that sounds like the most relaxing, sociable situation possible to me!)
When the others arrived though, we swept away the wood shavings, sat on the furniture, and actually got music out. But it was still a laid back atmosphere, and totally informal. All in all, I had a wonderful time. And I look forward to joining them again.
